Succulent Terrariums pt.2

Our fascination with succulent terrariums continues in 2012. Each little succulent plant has so much character and we’re blown away by their colors. Here's a fun picture of a full flat of the little guys and a couple of pics of them placed in their new homes. Somehow they do seem more like little pets than plants, don’t they?

Love for Valentines

Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day and love is everywhere at Sammy’s. We’ve been busy preparing for the big day for weeks. Today our fresh floral displays will be massive with gorgeous, fresh flowers and folliages. And our stores are packed with wonderful gift ideas - unique plants and potted floral, luscious scented candles, wreaths, terrariums, stylish home accents, cards, and really delicious chocolates.

Our Favorite Roses

Since Valentine’s is just around the corner, we thought we would share some of our favorite roses with you. Of course, it would be impossible to pick just one as there are so many gorgeous types and varieties available. So we will just start with a few by color.

Shown above are three favorite large standard roses. The beautiful red is the classic Freedom. It’s every thing one wants in a red rose in a perfect pure red and shape. Next, the striking bi-color rose shown is Circus. It excites in intense yellow and transitions to red at its tips. And the lovely bi-color pink rose is Esparance, a romantic favorite in cream and soft pink.

Color study: yellows and oranges

Bring on the citrus. Bright yellows and oranges with accents of green are sure to brighten the day. This time of year, everyone wants bright. Here are two recent sunny examples, guaranteed to break through the winter grey.

Tillandsia Care

Surviving without the need for soil and receiving most nutrients from the air, tillandsias (or air plants) do love a weekly bath. Submerge them in clean water for about an hour, longer in dry environments.  And if their leaves start to close up, this indicates dehydration and the need for a longer soak.

Care: Bright indirect light preferred • low water • Ave indoor temperature

Welcoming 2012

Sometimes you just need to go big. Whether it is a special anniversary or event, or just a large space requiring big color, these large arrangements show more is really more.

Flowers to wear

Not the basic white wrist corsage, these two examples are colorful accessories. Shown in vibrant yellow and black, with fragrant freesia, billy balls, agonis and begonia leaf. And in purple and silver, with dendrobium orchids, brunnia, and scented geranium leaf. Tiara optional!
